I am trying to mention few classic cases of BI applied in real time scenario and how it helped companies derive ROI. The 1KEY BI application usage was simple but impCase Studylementation was ruthless for that area.

Productivity Loss

One of the leading Financial Services and Broking Companies in India had deployed 1KEY BI for their internal MIS reporting. The HR head was smart and with help of the CIO he took the challenge to get the productivity loss due to late coming of employee. The results were startling. They had this show card attendance system which was recording the data of incoming and out going of all the employees. We found that company had 53 days of working productivity loss. This data was sliced in various departments to see which department employees were coming late. Then the same data was sliced further to male female, with various role hierarchies and results were startling. The same was then applied to check the attrition and movement of employees within department, male – female, designation wise, period wise. HR department could actually resolve and pin point and resolve the issues related to attrition and productivity loss. I am sure this kind of BI experience will really make any management sit up and improve corporate performance management.

Second place where we applied was a Consumer Product companies. Here it was the CIO initiative where in they had an internet content filtering proxy which was maintaining the log files of who sites visited, bandwidth consumed, downloads done, time used on internet and various other attributes. We took that log file and parsed it through 1KEY BI generated the reports and started looking at top 10 employee consuming the bandwidth, top 10 downloads, top 10 sites visited by employees and period in which highest surfing is done. We could see that 63% of the time employees were visiting personal email sites, job sites and news portal which were not related to their business. Downloads were highest in period 3pm to 5pm. Employees who had submitted the resignation have done highest email transfer so it was worth checking if they were passing some confidential information out of the office. There was near fatal shock to see the internet behavior of employees and kinds of productivity loss were unimaginable. This kind of BI analysis patter reporting can on periodic basis can bring out lot insights for top management to take pro active decisions than reactive one.
