D.A.N.D.A.
D.A.N.D.A. (Denial, Anger, Negotiate, Despair & Acceptance)
DANDA is a Hindi word meaning Stick. Sometimes in the corporate world too, the management has to make use of the DANDA (Stick). When talking about technology, Business users do not always welcome the CHANGE in technology. Business user goes through five distinct stages till accepting this change in technology. It starts with Denial – the stage at which the user completely rejects the change. Keeping these phases in mind, management or the chief of the technology can use the DANDA approach to get any project roll out in the organization.
D – Denial
A – Anger
N – Negotiate
D – Despair
A – Aacceptance
While implementing any software projects in an organization, one comes across the various challenges. These challenges are transformed in various stages. I found that most companies face that individual state of the software implementation cycle in five stages – Denial / Rejection, Anger, Negotiation / Bargaining, Despair / Depression, and Acceptance. (D.A.N.D.A.)
Where initially they deny need of technology then show anger for using technology. Then negotiate on what part of technology can be used, than he is in despair for using it and finally accepts it.
For some users, some stages are lengthier, some are shorter, and some stages don’t even come. In brief, the stages can be explained as…
1. Denial / Rejection – The “No, not me” stage / This can’t be happening, it just can’t! / Trying to Avoid
This stage is filled with disbelief and denial. Company or individual thinks that whatever is happening should NOT happen. They think that it’s bad to change and generally are not ready to accept change.
2. Anger/Resentment – The “Why me?” stage / This isn’t fair! It is wrong or bad. What good it will do to me! / Frustrated outpouring
This stage results in anger at the person whom you perceive as reason for everything.
3. Negotiation / Bargaining – The “If I do this, you’ll do that” stage / I would give anything to undo this! / Seeking in vain for a way out.
Negotiation for the change in the situation is the objective of this stage.
4. Despair / Depression – The “It happened” stage / Why do I even go on? / Final realization of the inevitable.
Realization of the fact happens in this stage. People do realize that whatever is happened is truth.
5. Acceptance – The “Its over. What next?” stage / This has happened, and I can get over it. / Finally finding the way forward
Changes accepted. Points noted. Everything’s over. Yes, it’s already done and it is good. What should I do now?
Apply DANDA approach on your projects and the users for successful implementation and achieve desired outputs.
